Frequently Asked Questions

Order

If ordering prescription items, you’ll need to have a prescription specific to the item you’ve selected. (A prescription for eyeglasses cannot be used for contact lenses and vice versa.) Here are a few more specifics for each order type:

Prescription glasses or sunglasses: You’ll need a valid eyeglasses prescription (meaning: it’s not for contacts, it hasn’t expired, and all values are visible) and your pupillary distance (PD). Your PD is the distance in millimeters between your pupils, and helps us center your prescription correctly in your frames. Ensure that your doctor includes your PD in your prescription.
o Once you have your valid prescription, you can upload a clear photo, scan or send the measurements by email to prescriptions@opticlasseyewear.com

Contact lenses: If you’re ordering contact lenses, you’ll also need a valid (meaning: it’s not for glasses, it hasn’t expired, and all values are visible) contact lens prescription. We accept either:
o Once you have your valid contact lens prescription, you can upload a clear photo, scan or send the measurements by email to prescriptions@opticlasseyewear.com

If you don’t have your prescription on-hand, you can book for an eye exam via our website.

We process orders quickly, so it would not be possible to make any changes to any product that you have already purchased via the website (this includes eyeglasses, sunglasses, contact lenses or eye vitamins). However if you send us your lens prescription and you need to make any changes, this can only be possible if it is sent in within one hour. After one hour, your lens order must have been processed already and it would not be possible to make any changes. The best way to reach us if you need to make any changes on your prescription is to call us on +2347081579149
Within Lagos and Abuja, your prescription glasses should be ready within 3 working days but in the case of special order prescription lenses it often takes at least 7 working days. Deliveries outside Lagos and Abuja will also take 3-7 working days.
If you are interested in purchasing multiple pairs using different prescriptions (like, one for you and one for your spouse; one pair for distance and one for reading, you get the picture), please place a separate order for each prescription, then check out and make total payment at once after you have placed all the orders you need. You will only be charged one shipping fee if you use the same address when placing the orders.
To purchase Opticlass products in multiples (quantities greater than 10), for wholesaler or partnerships, send an email to contact@opticlasseyewear.com. We’ll be happy to help.
You may have chosen to create an account while placing an order with us (even if you haven’t set a password yet). FIT

A few rules of thumb: • Your pupils should be near the center of the lens • Eyebrows should not be inside the glasses • When you smile, your cheeks don’t push the frames up • Frames shouldn’t slide down your nose Above all, pick what makes you look and feel good! Learn more about finding a good fit from our guide on how to find the right glasses for your face. We also have a team of personal stylists and opticians ready to help you find the perfect pair. Chat us on +2347081579149 to find yours!
All of our frames (and most glasses from other brands) have a few numbers printed on the inside of the temple arm. These refer to the lens width, bridge width, and temple arm length of your frames. On each product page, the frame measurements are listed as three numbers under MEASUREMENTS. We recommend comparing the measurements of your current glasses to the frame measurements on our website; this will give you an idea for how a pair will fit you. Check out our measurement guide for more information on locating your frame’s measurements

Prescriptions

No worries—we’ve got you covered. Here are some terms you’ll see on both glasses and contacts prescriptions:

OD: This abbreviation stands for “oculus dexter,” which is “right eye” in Latin.

OS: This abbreviation stands for “oculus sinister,” which is “left eye” in Latin.

Sphere (SPH): Sphere indicates how strong your lenses need to be. This will be accompanied by a plus (+) or minus (-), which indicates whether you’re farsighted or nearsighted.

Cylinder (CYL): Cylinder is the correction for astigmatism. Astigmatism (thanks for asking!) means that the shape of your cornea prevents you from seeing with perfect sharpness. If you have a cylinder included on your contact lens prescription, that usually means you wear toric lenses.

ADD: This is used when you require a prescription for both distance and reading in your glasses or contact lenses. It can be shown as an ADD value with a plus (+) sign with a number or, just the number of ADDition. An ADD indicates that you may need progressive or multifocal lenses.

Here are a few additional terms you’ll see on a contact lens prescription:

Base curve (BC): For contact lenses, the base curve helps the lens fit properly. This usually is a number between 8 and 10 that measures the curve of a contact lens.

Diameter (Dia): This is the width across a contact lens in millimeters. Most contact lenses are 13–15 mm wide.

Brand: The part of the prescription that specifies which kind of contacts have been prescribed to you. For contact lenses, we are only able to fulfill the brand of lenses prescribed by your doctor.

Color: Many contacts have a slightly visible tint to help you see them against different surfaces. (It’s common to see blue tint or handling tint listed on your contact lens packaging.) Certain contacts may have a color tint to enhance or change the color of your eyes while you wear them. This has no effect on your vision, but it’s still important to get a prescription by a doctor to make sure they fit your eyes properly.

Yes, we do. If you have your valid prescription written by a doctor please send us an email at prescriptions@opticlasseyewear.com You can also book for an eye exam if you need to renew your lens prescription for your progressive or bifocal lenses. For progressive lenses we require that you visit any of our locations to get your frames marked and your pupillary distance (PD) measured by an Optometrist.
Single-vision lenses offer one correction throughout the entire lens (usually for distance or reading). Progressive lenses offer multiple focal corrections in one lens, providing a seamless transition from distance correction on top to reading correction on bottom. This means you can see your whole field of vision without switching between multiple pairs of glasses. Neat. If you have any additional questions about progressives, we’re happy to help!

For day-to-day cleaning of light smudges, a few swipes of the lens cloth included in your case should do the trick. Please be careful to avoid using hot water on your lenses (especially if they are high-index lenses), as they can develop bubbles or cracks when exposed to high heat. Check it out on our accessories products list.
Yes, we have anti-blue light glasses on our product list and these glasses block harmful blue light from entering your eyes and protect your eyes from digital eye strain and fatigue. You can also purchase any frame of your choice and then add anti-blue light lenses to your order during checkout or while ordering your lens prescription. If you’re planning on wearing your glasses both indoors and outdoors, we’d recommend you make your lenses both anti-blue light and photochromic too.
